Catering to those needs is the main focus of the gameplay. Increasing population means more taxes and the ability to construct advanced buildings.

Combat is greatly simplified and based mostly on strength of numbers, rather than unit composition and quality. Surrounding your town with walls is a priority that increases the feeling of security amongst the inhabitants.
